A number of studies have shown that various forms of Periodontal Disease have up to a 85% incidence rate in adults. More noteworthy is the finding that many of these adults are unaware of having the beginning stages of these diseases.

It is common for most of us, however, to notice the minor (beginning stage of gingivitis) symptoms and dismiss them entirely or attribute them to brushing our teeth too hard or eating too many spicey foods.
